This week, Site 4 Class B's sensory story has been 'That’s Not My Hedgehog', and the pupils have had so much fun exploring the different textures and sensory experiences linked to the story.

For each page, the children had the opportunity to explore a different feely bag:

  •  Fluffy – cotton balls, fluffy fabrics, feathers and wool
  •  Soft – teddy bears and fleecy socks
  •  Shiny – foil, sequins and tinsel
  •  Fuzzy – Velcro and pom-poms
  •  Smooth – smooth pebbles, conkers and shells
  •  Prickly – pine cones, conker shells and a hairbrush

The pupils absolutely loved the sensory element of the story and enjoyed using their hands to explore all the different textures.

They then created their very own 'Hedgehog Wonderland' sensory tray, filled with leaves, conkers, bark and pine cones for the children to explore. They also investigated hedgehogs covered in different sensory materials, including sandpaper, bubble wrap, artificial grass, satin and foil.

The creative activities continued with making their own Play-Doh hedgehogs, using googly eyes and penne pasta to create their spikes.

The pupils also worked on their fine motor skills by using pegs to create hedgehog spikes, helping to develop hand strength, coordination and dexterity.

It has been a wonderful week full of sensory exploration, creativity, fine motor development and lots of opportunities to learn through play.

Well done everyone!
