Work Experience Partnerships – Preparing for Adulthood

At Thomas Bewick School, we believe that preparing for adulthood means equipping our pupils with the skills, confidence, and experiences they need to thrive beyond education. Through strong partnerships with local providers, we offer a wide range of opportunities that combine learning with real-world experience.

Choices College – Education Meets Employment

We work closely with Choices College, a specialist post-16 institution supporting young people aged 16–24 with special educational needs. Choices College blends academic learning with structured workplace placements across NHS healthcare settings, local organisations, and private businesses. This approach helps learners develop employability skills, gain confidence, and build pathways to long-term careers.

As part of our Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) offer, pupils access sessions on professionalism, CV writing, and interview techniques aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks. They also benefit from our virtual work-related learning platform, created in partnership with Springpod, and practical work experience placements of up to six weeks—providing essential skills and clear routes into supported internships.

FoodWorks at Westgate College – Inclusive Opportunities

FoodWorks is more than a café—it’s a social enterprise dedicated to creating an inclusive economy where everyone has the chance to thrive. Based at Westgate College, FoodWorks provides hands-on training for individuals with learning disabilities, mental health challenges, or experiences of exclusion. Trainees develop practical skills while preparing fresh food for local sites, supported by professional job coaches who mentor and guide them toward sustainable employment.

Every purchase at FoodWorks helps fund training and work opportunities for those who need them most. As part of Newcastle City Council’s Supported Employment Service, FoodWorks also offers work experience and working interviews for pupils at Thomas Bewick School, helping them gain confidence and real-world skills.

Delta Marriott Hotel – Inspiring Hospitality Careers

Our partnership with the Delta Marriott Hotel gives pupils a unique insight into the world of hospitality. From assisting in the kitchen and learning daily routines to supporting guest services, these placements provide hands-on experience in a vibrant, professional environment. Beyond technical skills, pupils develop teamwork, communication, and confidence—qualities that open doors to careers in hospitality and beyond.

Together, these partnerships empower our pupils to take ownership of their future, build independence, and prepare for life after school.
