Maths: Repeating Patterns
Return to Latest News
This week in Maths, the pupils in Site 4 Class B have been learning all about repeating patterns. They have explored patterns through lots of fun, practical and sensory activities, helping the children to recognise, copy and create simple repeating sequences.
They started by exploring patterns through songs and rhythm, using familiar songs such as 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star'. The children were encouraged to clap along to the rhythm, helping them to listen, anticipate what comes next and begin to experience the idea of repetition through music.
The children used sponges and two different coloured paints to create their own repeating patterns on paper. This was a lovely sensory activity and gave the children the opportunity to explore colours, textures and repetition.
We also used coloured blocks to build and continue repeating patterns. The children were encouraged to look carefully at what came next and have a go at creating their own patterns.
Using photo cards, the pupils were encouraged to look carefully at a pattern and recreate it using a variety of resources, including coloured bears, bobbins and interlocking cubes.
It has been wonderful to see the children engaging with patterns in so many different ways. They are beginning to understand that a pattern repeats again and again, and had lots of fun along the way!
