NEU Strike Action

The next teacher strike will take place on the following date:

Tuesday 28 February 2023

It is important to note that the strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over teacher pay and conditions of employment, and not because of any issues specifically relating to our school.

As the Headteacher, I have had to consider how we manage the inevitable disruption, placing the safety and well-being of staff and pupils at the heart of our decision-making.

Approximately 70% of our teachers are NEU members and as such, clearly it is not possible to operate school in the normal manner whilst maintaining a safe environment for our pupils.

The added complication is that many other schools across the city will be closed or partially closed on this day, resulting in childcare difficulties for many of our staff who will therefore be unable to attend work.

On Tuesday 28th February our school will be PARTIALLY CLOSED in response to the strike action, which means that we are not able to open all classes on this day. Every family will have received a letter (by email and a paper version) to let you know if your child’s class will be OPEN or CLOSED on Tuesday 28th February.

I will update you about the plan for the other 2 dates in due course.

I recognise that this industrial action and the associated disruption to you and to your child’s education may be frustrating, however, I ask that all members of our school community continue to treat each other with kindness and respect throughout this period.
